As Director of Neuroendovascular Surgery at The Valley Hospital in New Jersey, Dr. Altschul is known for her exceptional patient outcomes. With over nine years of data, her practice demonstrates superior recovery rates, reduced infections, and restored brain function, often surpassing larger medical centers. 

For more than a decade, Dr. Dorothea has been celebrated in respected publications such as Jersey’s Best, Top Doctors New York Metro Area, and New York Magazine. She is a five-time recipient of the Castle Connolly Exceptional Women in Medicine Award and holds fellowships with both the American Heart Association and the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology. 

Dr. Dorothea’s distinguished educational background includes training at Columbia University, specialization in stroke and vascular neurology from Harvard Medical School, and advanced neuroepidemiology studies at the NIH. A graduate of the Medical University of Vienna, she also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery and has held the position of Chief Medical Advisor for Siemens Healthineers North America in neuroangiography since 2022. 

Fluent in German and English, Dr. Dorothea is a sought-after speaker, presenting worldwide on topics such as chronic head pressure solutions, minimizing internal whooshing sounds, optimizing brain blood flow functionality, and vascular longevity. Her 16 years in the field have made a lasting impact on both the medical community and her patients. 

Beyond her clinical expertise, Dr. Dorothea is a prolific author, artist, and speaker. She shares her knowledge through the Neurosurgeons of NJ blog, numerous white papers, and “The Insights Webinar” for the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery. She will co-chair the Society’s Annual Meeting in 2025 and currently hosts its Journal Club.
